The Perfect Little Red Desk for a Computer

Some time back, I bought the cutest little waterfall style desk. Not sure what the original intent was, but it has been sitting in my entry way for some time now. With my upcoming surgery, though, I have vowed to get as many projects as I can completed. For a few reasons, but primarily to get my path from kitchen to bedroom clear for post surgery mobility. Also, I know that I won’t be able to get much accomplished during recovery and I want temptation and frustration of not being able to be removed from my horizons. I really need to focus on recovery and therapy.

So, I moved the desk to the garage and it got the usual treatment. I love pieces that have been cared for and maintained. It needed just the most minor attention before primer and paint. It occurred to me that it would be the perfect size for an “all-in-one” type of computer, like an iMac or laptop. I initially thought about converting the middle drawer into a keyboard tray and preparing it with electrical connectors, but then I reverted back to the most simplest makeover and leaving it to still work for someone who just would like a small desk for a child’s room or an out of the way nook in a hallway or kitchen.

This will be a quick reveal as was the whole project. Quick and straight forward.

DSCN3679Is this cute? And way before it got piled high with “stuff”… project pieces, equipment, drop cloths… you name it. Its proximity to the front door meant junk mail and it was an easy spot to drop off clothes from the laundry. It had to go!

Here it is completed. This is a different red than I normally use, this one has a more pink or orange underlying tint (instead of blue). In the sunlight you can really see it. I think it would be stunning in a blue and/or denim room as an accent. It would have worked wonderfully in The Kid’s room as well, considering his accent color is exactly that red, but his room is much to full already!

2015-11-14 13.10.19I added those little cup pulls, this time painted black. I’ve now used all of them that I had rescued from a different piece. They are so versatile and they work perfect on this piece.

I told you tonight’s reveal would be quick! I hope you like it!

You ruined the beautiful wood! All of your other projects are beautiful when painted but this was such beautiful wood and you took that away. My only disappointment. Sorry I am negative thus time.

    • I really debated on whether to paint this piece. I, too, thought the wood was lovely but apparently not my customer base! I couldn’t sell it to anyone! I even tried to give it to a few people and some of the comments were similar to ‘I’d love this in my [child]’s room if it were [color].’… so I painted it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. Regardless of what it looked like before, I like the way it turned out. 🙂

What year is your Red Waterfall desk and can you tell me anything about it and can you tell me what year they started making that kind of desk see I found one like that one but it was painted a light blue and I think that’s the way when it was new but mine has no hardware it has places at the bottom to pull the drawers out and I really like the red . thanks

    • From what I understand, the “waterfall” style is considered “art deco” and probably was built in the 30’s or 40’s. I came across it on CraigsList, so I don’t know its history. I was turning over a lot of pieces during that time, and it sold quickly. Red seemed to be the ‘color du jour’ for last year and I have a special love of red.

Glad you liked the piece and thanks for stopping by!
