My latest creations were born from the boredom I experienced while watching television. Always have to have something to do with my hands. And I love working with felt and embroidery thread and all the fun things you can do with these two simple ingredients.
The latest endeavor are these fun little notebook covers. I found this wonderful deal on 4″ x 6″ lined notebooks at the local office supply place, as I am a huge fan of note taking. For work, for shopping, for quilting, for all the things I do. But most are just plain and I end up doodling on them which generally results in them looking messy and unattractive and unprofessional.
I thought that if I put a nice cover on it, it would make it more recognizable and nicer to handle. So, the first one was an experiment in how to construct it and it was plain pink with the blanket stitch around the edges in a white embroidery thread. But I found that the color of the cover was visible (blue, I think) so it occurred to me that I should put some sort of design on it to hide the color. I also had to come up with a different way to insert the notebook into the cover.
Once I had the construction technique down, it was just a matter of coming up with different designs. And more intricate designs. More personal designs – some more challenging, some less so. Things that appeal to me. I hope you’ll agree.
I still have a few more notebooks to do and a few in larger sized notebooks. I am still searching for more designs that are special and fun. And if you have any ideas or suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
Here is my son using one of his favorite notebooks to take notes.
Thanks for dropping by and happy crafting, y’all!
